What are the wearables for?
The wearables map the postures and movements of the back to build a picture of the physical load. Based on objective data and input from employees, we can identify pain points, uncover patterns and analyse tasks. In addition, we raise awareness and train workers through the vibration signal, which makes them aware of their posture during work. We also record the impact of this vibration signal so it becomes clear whether further action is needed, such as extra training, adjustments to infrastructure or aids.
What exactly do the wearables do?
The SpineWise wearables are easily attached to clothing and measure the posture and movements of the back during work. They determine the trunk inclination (α) and back curvature (β) using a biomechanical model. By combining two sensors (belt and collar), we see not only how much someone moves, but also how. The sensors communicate in real time via Bluetooth, which makes direct feedback with vibrations possible. Afterwards, the collected data is sent to our secure cloud environment, where the analysis happens automatically.
What exactly does the sensor measure, and how?
The sensors record the inclination relative to gravity and translate this into angles. Thanks to multiple measurement points, we can distinguish between, for example, bending with a straight back and bending with a rounded back. This gives us an accurate picture of the degree of flexion and the way movements are performed.
Do the sensors measure forces?
Not directly. Pulling and pushing forces are not measured as long as someone stays in a neutral posture. We also do not directly see the weight of a lifting movement. Indirectly, however, the wearables do give a signal: heavier loads lead to longer bends and often to a more rounded back, which means a risk movement is registered sooner. Coaching example: anyone who places their feet closer to the load lifts more efficiently. That requires less force, results in less back flexion and often prevents a vibration signal.
Are the wearables water resistant?
The wearables are splash-proof.
How long do the wearables need to charge?
It takes about 45 minutes to charge the wearables to 80%; to charge them fully to 100%, count on 2 to 3 hours. A full battery lasts at least 11 hours, more than enough for a full working day.
Can you start several analyses at the same time?
Yes, that is perfectly possible. This does not slow down processing and is even faster than starting analyses one after another.
